A couple months ago, Lydia and I were coming home from a party and the kids fell asleep in the car pretty fast. We were driving home and talking when I got the feeling that we should pray and thank God for some of the blessings he had recently given us. I grabbed Lydia’s hand and started to pray out loud. When I finished, Lydia started praying.
For the next hour and a half we drove around and prayed. We didn’t ask for anything, we just thanked God for all of the great things he had done for us and given us. When do got home, we sat in the car and prayed some more.
After that night I felt like God started something in both of us. We started giving more and started reading the Bible more regularly. We both started feeling a bigger pull towards serving in specific areas in the church. We started coming up with new ideas and dreams for our future. I don’t know what all started that night, and I don’t know what would have happened if we didn’t do that. But I’m glad we did.
I think that we all may be missing some thankfulness in our lives. God gives us so much, so much more than we even realize (you know how when you get a cut, it heals itself? God did that!). Lydia and I prayed and thanked God for a couple hours nonstop and we didn’t even get past the obvious stuff. But being thankful has already produced a lot of good things for us. Maybe it will do you some good too.
