As Christians we often refer to God as our Lord and Savior. It’s important to know what that means, not just say it.
Jesus is our savior. A savior is
someone who saves something or someone from danger, harm, failure, etc. (MW)
Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice to pay for our sins. He did so to save us from the punishment for sin. Jesus is our savior.
We treat Jesus as our savior. He saved us and we’re grateful. He isn’t just supposed to be our savior, though, he’s supposed to be our Lord as well.
One having power and authority over others. A ruler by hereditary right or preeminence to whom service and obedience are due. (MW)
A lord is a ruler to whom service and obedience are due. God didn’t just save us, He isn’t just our savior, He’s our Lord too.
A lot of people seem to never move past savior to lord. God is the ruler of the universe and deserves our service and obedience. It’s easy to let someone be our savior, but it takes sacrifice and work to let them be our Lord.
Don’t forget that Jesus is our Lord, not just our savior. His will is your duty. Your lifelong job is to do what He would have you do.
