I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.
1 Corinthians 14:18
This has sort of become my life verse. I’ve taken to speaking in tongues quite a bit, at least a few times a day and not just for a few seconds. I try to speak in tongues for at least a few minutes at a time.
One of the gifts of the Spirit and the main sign that you have been filled with the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues. In the early church, when you got saved you would confess Christ, get baptized and be filled with the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues.
Speaking in tongues is sort of weird. But I’ve found that the more I do it, the more I love it.
It connects us directly to God in a way that we can’t do by ourselves. The Holy Spirit is almost turned on by speaking in tongues. Suddenly you are filled with the Spirit stirring inside of you. Why not do it all the time?
Since I started working on speaking in tongues regularly, I’ve noticed my life has changed. I recognize when people are saying something Biblically wrong immediately. I say stuff and write stuff that just pours out of me without any forethought, and it amazes me that it came from me. I have an easier time being happy and upbeat. I forgive more. I feel drawn to reading the Bible and praying more. I’m less tempted by sin. I say I’m sorry more.
When you accept Jesus as your savior, the Holy Spirit comes inside you. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues, God’s power is able to work though you. But when we don’t speak in tongues or practice the gifts of the Holy Spirit, they just sit there and don’t work. That’s why I decided to speak in tongues a lot more. I’m using the gift that God gave me, and He likes that.
