Just Ask

I’ve been trying to teach my three year old, Stanley, something new. Whenever he wants something, instead of just giving it to him when he says he wants it, I’m making him ask.

He’ll say something like, “I’m thirsty,” or “I want an apple,” but I won’t give him anything until he says, “Can I have a drink, please?” or “Can I have an apple?” I think it’s important that he learns to ask for the things he wants instead of just stating he wants it (can you think of any adults who need to learn that?).

I wonder if God isn’t the same way.

How often have you said, “I want a new car,” or “I need a raise at work?” I think that many times God is waiting for us to actually ask Him for what we need. I know that sometimes I wish that I had something or I say that I need it, but I never actually ask God to provide it.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8

I bet there are times when God is completely willing to give us exactly what we want or need, He’s just a little tired of the complaining and He’s waiting us to actually ask.

Josiah

Josiah Douglas isn't a super smart guy (even though he has a bachelor's degree), and he doesn't know a lot about God (his degree is in theology), but he does think a lot and sometimes he writes those things down so that you can read them too!
