The Best Coffee Is The Holy Spirit

A lot of us reach for a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. I work at 5 am and I have a hard time getting though the day without at least one cup of coffee. About a year ago I wrote about how much coffee I drink. Since then I have changed my sleep habits and don’t drink nearly as much, but I usually have about two (or three) cups of coffee a day. I’ll have one not long after I get to work, and usually another around 2 or 3 after I get home from work. It’s a nice boost that helps me to get things done when I need to get them done. I often make myself a coffee just prior to sitting down to write a new post for my website.

When you are spiritually tired, the best coffee is the Holy Spirit.

When I’m spiritually tired, I have something to reach for that works just as well as coffee, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was sent by Jesus to be our comforter and to give us power, sounds a lot like spiritual coffee to me.

In 1 Samuel 30, David’s enemies had come and raided his camp while he and his men were away. They had destroyed everything and had kidnapped their wives and children. His men where so angry because of what had happened that they were talking about killing David. Not only was David scared for his life, he was just as distressed as him men because his stuff was destroyed and his wives where kidnapped too.

But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6

What did David do? He strengthened himself in the Lord. At his absolute worst, David knew that God is the one to provide hope, comfort and strength. I don’t know what David did to strengthen himself in the Lord, but luckily I do know how we can strengthen ourselves in the Lord.

The best way to strengthen yourself in the Lord is by speaking in tongues

Reading the Bible will help to strengthen you, but it works over time. It’s more like eating right a exercise. Praying can help strengthen you, but it adds extra power with a long dosing like taking vitamin supplements. Worship is more like tea in my opinion. Sometimes it wakes you up, sometimes it puts you to sleep. Both are good, but when you really need the get up and go, coffee is you best friend. The best way to strengthen yourself in the Lord is by speaking in tongues. Speaking in tongues gives energy to your soul faster and in a more direct way than anything else.

Don’t get me wrong, if you aren’t praying, reading your Bible and worshiping regularly, you are in bad shape. I wholeheartedly believe that those are essential in your life. But speaking in tongues should be your early mornings and mid afternoon get up and go the same way that coffee is for natural energy.

When you are feeling down, speak in tongues. When you are feeling frustrated, speak in tongues. When you are feeling helpless, speak in tongues. When you just don’t feel like doing anything, speak in tongues. Depressed? speak in tongues. Overwhelmed? Speak in tongues. Lonely? Speak in tongues.

If you don’t speak in tongues at all, pray that God will give you His gift of speaking in tongues. Then find a Christian leader who does and ask him for help, or send me a message from my Contact Page and I would love to help you out.

If you do speak in tongues, there are a few ground rules before it will give you the “coffee affect.”

Speaking in tongues ground rules. 1) Speak Out Loud 2) Don’t Mumble 3) Make It Last
  1. Speak Out Loud. When you speak in tongues, speak out loud. If you sort of just whisper or think it, it won’t work.
  2. Don’t Mumble. Just like when you talk to your mom, nobody likes a mumbler. There is so much more power when you speak in tongues clearly. Don’t be embarrassed.
  3. Make It Last. Just like a cup of coffee, if you only take a small sip, it won’t do much good. Try to see if you can speak in tongues for a whole minute. Literally time yourself. When you can do it for a minute, make it three. When you can do it for three, up it to five. When you can go for five minutes without stopping, the sky is the limit. It should be no problem to just keep going.

The Holy Spirit is the strength we need to get through our day to day life. Speaking in tongues is the coffee that gets us that strength. And the best part is, it won’t keep you up all night if you speak in tongues past 5 pm!

Josiah Douglas isn't a super smart guy (even though he has a bachelor's degree), and he doesn't know a lot about God (his degree is in theology), but he does think a lot and sometimes he writes those things down so that you can read them too!
