Have You Considered My Servant?

Have You Considered My Servant?

Have You Considered My Servant?

Sometimes it seems like everything is going wrong at once. Your car breaks down, your wife needs to go to the emergency room, your kids are sick and all of a sudden you have no money. At least that’s how it happened for me.

In my experience, as a Christian there are three reasons why everything in your life is going bad.

Number 1, You’re in Sin

If you are in some sort of secret sin, you are inviting the devil to attack you.

If you are in some sort of secret sin, you are inviting the devil to attack you

When Lydia and I were secretly going against the wishes of our parents and dating, everything was going wrong in our lives. Lydia went to the emergency room a couple time with weird bug bites and medical issues and my car kept breaking down in weird ways that cost a lot of money. One day Lydia was getting gas, and it just poured right out the bottom of her car onto the ground. Someone had cut a hole in her gas tank. Who even does that?

If your world is breaking down around you and you know it’s because you are secretly sinning in some major way, you need to stop whatever it is you are doing, and bring it to the light by telling your spouse and church leadership. When you do, your problems will seem to fade away. At least, in my experience.

Number 2, You’re Doing God’s Will

When you are passionately going after God the Devil will do everything he can to stop you

It’s funny that this reason is on the exact opposite end of the spectrum as the last one, but it seems to have the same results in our lives. When you are passionately going after God and the things He wants you to do (i.e. reading the Bible, praying, evangelizing, etc.) the Devil will do everything he can to stop you.

This happens even more if you are about to make a major change that will move you more towards God’s plan for your life. Right now, Lydia and I are making some life changes so we can spend more time working towards the goal God has placed in our hearts. In the last couple of weeks, Lydia was showing signs of potentially life threatening illness. We spent the night in the emergency room, only to be sent home because nothing was wrong. The transmission went out on our minivan a little over a month after getting $1000 worth of repairs and a year after getting four new tires. And our kids have been sick on and off though this whole time.

If you find yourself in this place, the best thing you can do is plow through and praise God throughout. The point of these attacks are to stop you from doing what you are doing, so whatever you do, don’t stop doing what God wants you to do. He is in control and when you finally come out the other side, you will be more blessed for it.

Number 3, It’s All a Coincidence

Don’t be too quick to give the Devil the credit

Not everything is the Devil. Someone once told me not to be too quick to give the Devil the credit. Sometimes bad things happen because they just happen. If you give the Devil the credit for every little thing, you’re just praising him for stuff he didn’t even do. He’ll take the credit though, I’m sure he loves it.

If you never do any maintenance on your car and it breaks down, the Devil didn’t do it. If you never exercise and you eat tons of sugar and get diabetes, it’s not an attack from the Devil. And sometimes you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time.

When bad things happen, sometimes it may feel like Satan was talking to God and God mentioned to him, “have you considered my servant (insert your name)?” I’ve thought that, but then again Job literally lost everything he had, including his family, all in one day. Then he was struck with boils. I don’t have it that bad, do you?

Claim the blood of Jesus over every situation and let Christ take care of it

If you are being attacked because of reason number 1, then there is a very specific way to make that stop. But if you fall into the other two categories, the best thing to do is to keep a good attitude, don’t blame God, press though and pray for extra protection for you and your family. When Jesus died on the cross, he defeated the Devil. This means that you don’t need to worry about fighting him. Just claim the blood of Jesus over the situation and let Christ take care of it, because He already has. Prayer is your best weapon, use it.

Josiah Douglas isn't a super smart guy (even though he has a bachelor's degree), and he doesn't know a lot about God (his degree is in theology), but he does think a lot and sometimes he writes those things down so that you can read them too!
