Three Steps To Do This Year Right

We’re a few days into a new year and even though I’m preaching to the choir, I think I should mention this today.

This year, decide that you are going to read your Bible and pray more than you did last year.

I know that you know that blah blah blah, but it’s actually really important! I wrote a good post about being consistent in this kind of thing, and it’s worth taking a look at. But there are three things that I want you to decide to do this year that will change your life in ways that you wouldn’t ever imagine.

  1. Read your Bible regularly

I know that reading it everyday is what I should be saying, but if I was honest, I would have to tell you that I don’t read it everyday. I read the Bible about five or six days a week. Even by reading it three times a week, you are miles ahead of the majority of Christians and I bet your love for the Word will grow and you’ll want to read it more anyway.

  2. Pray everyday

This one I really mean everyday. Seriously, EVERYDAY! It doesn’t have to be a great prayer, just make sure it’s everyday. Without prayer everyday, you will be more moody and irritable. Trust me, you might not notice it, but everyone else will. By getting closer to God everyday, your relationship with Him will grow. And don’t just make it all about you, a lot of days I don’t even pray for anything, I just spend my prayer time praising God.

  3. Speak in tongues

A lot. Make 1 Corinthians 14:18 your life verse. Speaking in tongues revives and strengthens you spirit. When you speak in tongues, you are speaking directly to God in a language that only He understands. You are allowing the Holy Spirit to speak through you and pray exactly what you should be praying, whether you know it or not. Don’t speak in tongues everyday, speak in tongues every chance you get everyday. By speaking in tongues more, you open your spirit to God more. Nothing but good can come from that. Try to speak in tongues out loud for at least five minutes non stop. When you have no problem doing that, go longer.

These three steps aren’t just good for the beginning of the year, they’re good everyday for the rest of your life. Try doing these things for a couple weeks and see how much God changes your life for the better.

Josiah Douglas isn't a super smart guy (even though he has a bachelor's degree), and he doesn't know a lot about God (his degree is in theology), but he does think a lot and sometimes he writes those things down so that you can read them too!
