People love to be in on a secret. It’s exciting to know something that other people don’t know. One of the big appeals of many cults is, as you work your way up, you get to learn deeper and darker secrets. Secrets that unlock the inner workings of the universe and open up other worldly experiences and knowledge to only the select few.
Let me tell you a little secret. A secret that only the most learned and experienced Christians know. This is a secret that every pastor knows, every church elder knows and every wise old Christian knows. It’s something that it takes years for most people to figure out, and it’ll unlock more doors in the Christian faith than you could ever imagine. Here it is:
The Bible is simple. Christianity is simple. There isn’t anything hidden.
That’s right. The secret that it takes years for pastors and church elders to learn, the secret that separates the new Christians from the old, is God doesn’t hide things from us. The gospel that you heard and accepted when you were first saved, is the same gospel that your pastor has spent years studying and learning. There really isn’t anything else.
Christianity isn’t built on secrets. It isn’t built in a way that makes you climb the ladder and learn special handshakes to find out what it’s really about. God wrote the Bible so that anyone can read it and understand. He wants us to know the secrets of the universe, so He laid them all out so we can all see. He isn’t hiding anything from us. The big secret is, there is no secret.
